Tuscan Poppies

Mark Keathley
Tuscan Poppies
9” x 12”
Oil on Panel
2013

Mark Keathley paints a peaceful village that speaks to the heart of those seeking times gone by.  Five quaint structures nestled among lush greenery suggest generations of commitment to life at its best.  The single identifiable structure is that of a church and suggests man living accountable to one another.  This deep yearning is satisfied by Keathley’s lush floral garden.  It is supported by a labor of love seen in the hand-made rock fences used to shelter a garden leaden with red and white Poppies and Yellow Astilbe.  ©

New Gallery Director Named for JR Mooney Galleries of Fine Art, Boerne

J.R. Mooney Galleries of Fine Art is proud to announce the appointment of Gabriel Diego Delgado as Gallery Director for the J.R. Mooney Galleries of Fine Art, Boerne.

Mr. Delgado’s previous position as Art Consultant at the San Antonio and Boerne gallery locations helped J.R. Mooney Galleries usher in new online gallery projects including the launch of a variety of social media platforms as well as a fresh direction for the in-house curatorial selections and hangings.

Delgado’s experience in the art world is rich in exceptional artistic experiences, from museums to galleries to institutional endeavors.

As Curator of Exhibitions for 5 years, at the Ineri Foundation, Delgado was one of two curators for the privately held, Station Museum of Contemporary Art and the Folk Art institution, the ArtCar Museum- both in Houston, Texas.  With exhibitions ranging from local, regional and international, Delgado familiarized himself with various elements of the international art community.  Wanting to continue his focus and path as a professional artist elsewhere, Delgado relocated to California where he spent 4 years building his own artistic portfolio.  While in California he gained valuable knowledge in upper level management and corporate leadership working for a Fortune 100 company.

In 2007 Delgado returned to Texas and continued his passion for working with nonprofits, spending 2 years as Project Manager of Research and Development at the Museo Alameda, a Smithsonian Institution Affiliate in San Antonio.

With various management and directorship positions in the private as well as non-profit sectors, Delgado is also an art critic and reviewer - promoting the rich culture of Texas as a freelance writer for such publications as www.Glasstire.com, NHOME Magazine , NSIDE Publications, San Antonio Magazine, Voices of Art, La Prensa, Arts+Culture Texas, Local Community News, SA Current, and Explore Magazine. He currently sits on the Advisory Board of NHOME Magazine, providing consultation for their Arts and Culture selections and features.

Delgado continues to exhibit his own artwork in galleries throughout the U.S., touting exhibitions in San Francisco, Houston, Oakland, San Antonio, New York, and internationally in Madrid, Spain with an upcoming group exhibition in Cairo, Egypt. In addition to his diverse exhibition resume, Delgado has also been recognized by the Artist Foundation of San Antonio in2008, and was awarded the Houston based I.A.M.  Art Grant in October 2011. He was also one of the finalists for the Houston-based Hunting Art Prize Grant for 2012.

His distinguishing experience and knowledge provides a unique blend of talent and curatorial direction for the Gallery Director position at J.R. Mooney Galleries of Fine Art, Boerne.  J.R. Mooney Galleries of Fine Art, Boerne will continue to bring a roster of local, national and international artists coupled with museum quality custom framing to the San Antonio and Hill Country communities.

Second Saturday Art & Wine

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--“Petal to Stem”, a curatorial hanging of a collection of floral paintings takes a look at the various impressionistic qualities of Mother Nature’s elaborate reproductive gem.

Decorative, functional, and medicinal, flowers have played many vital roles. 120 million year old flower fossils have been discovered on the graves of Neanderthals in Iraqi caves. Romans gave floral wreaths for victorious competitors. Indigenous cultures as well as New Age practitioners have used flowers, pollen, and scent for rituals as well as homeopathy.

From the earliest known floral art of the Egyptians to the personalized flower portraits of the Gothic era to the 17th century Dutch and 19th century impressionists – and onward to Van Gogh, O’Keefe, and Warhol arriving at Jose Vives-Atsara and Darryl Trott; flowers in art are found throughout mankind’s full existence.

Floral still-lifes and landscapes can be relaxing, calm and meditative as well as jubilant and energetic “Petal to Stem” showcases these emotions as well as many more, granting individual observation and reception as key to this seemingly aromatic art appreciation.

Gi Salmon’s “Peruvian Lily” portrays a picturesque and up-close rendition of the South American beauty, while Darryl Trott delivers an overhead point of view of a bountiful bouquet; both artists maximize blurred backgrounds to refocus the attention back to the still life.

The vase full of purple flowers painted by Jamie Lisa compliments the traditional composition of K. Yoon’s Floral Delight. While on the other hand the photorealism of Tulok’s red roses on copper panel contrast the impressionistic whips of color that formulate Jose Vives-Atsara’s “Wildflowers”.
