"Well Traveled" by Photorealist painter Thomas Arvid

More of Thomas Arvid's artwork can be found on our website at:

http://www.jrmooneygalleries.com/index.php?route=product/manufacturer/product&manufacturer_id=321

Through his stunningly realistic compositions of wine, Thomas Arvid has redefined the modern still life, setting an unmatched precedent in the art world. Uniting a remarkable eye for photo-realism with a genuine talent for abstract composition, the self-taught Arvid offers an innovative commentary about a familiar subject, one he finds inexhaustible. As Arvid explains, with my paintings, there is never a complete subject; everything is interrupted. I show fragments of things and your mind creates the rest of the image. Wine is a great subject for this because it has so many elements: hot and cool surfaces, fluid, wood, chrome, cloth. But most importantly, it is familiar. You know it, so your mind fills in the composition with your own experience. Acclaimed for its ability to capture a traditional subject in a startlingly new style, his work has been featured in many influential publications, including Wine Spectator, US Art, Decor, Points North and Art World News.

He served in the military from 1985 to 1987. During his early years, Morgan was an artist living and painting in the countryside of Kyung-Ki, Seoul.

Although he was raised in an urban area, he became deeply interested in life in the rural regions. He enjoyed visiting his grandfather who lived in a rural area and sketched the landscape during his time there. His grandfather invited young Morgan to his home frequently to help him discover his artistic sensibilities and let him paint objects around his home. This is how Morgan began painting professionally.

His early style combined his passion for landscapes and seascapes with a formal sense of accuracy. Now Morgan has changed his formal style into an impressionistic style. His paintings consist of impressionistic European street scenes, Venice, and various landscapes.

Painting of the Day: K. Adams

Born in South Korea in 1958, Adams received his artistic skills formal training in his homeland. His first personal exhibition was at the U.S. Forces in Korea in 1985. He spent the next years exhibiting work in major cities and received many national awards. During his painting career it was through the 18th century landscape painters that he found pure inspiration. Adams development as a landscape artist is sought after internationally. He feels very strongly that the true expression of art resides in nature, and his art represents this through the very delicate differences of color blends in his composition and arrangement of each landscape. In his painting the beauty of life and art converge in a remarkable way.
